A TRANSFORMATIONAL VISION
The Corlears 50th Anniversary Campaign

In 2018, Corlears celebrated its 50th anniversary. In honor of this significant milestone, Corlears School embarked on a 5-year, $4 million campaign that goes beyond our physical structure; this campaign is focused on our heart. Over the past five years, Corlears has been building a truly innovative and transformational vision that is growing a new model for what a private school made just for young children can be.

Learn. Play. Grow. Initiative Offers Free Family Activities

In October 2021, Corlears School launched the Learn. Play. Grow. initiative with the goal of supporting families in the broader community of New York City families, and expanding access to early childhood education experts and enrichment opportunities.

After a successful inaugural year, LPG is back for a second season, with themed Saturdays chock-full of programming for kids ages 0–12.

What is Learn. Play. Grow.?

This multifaceted program offers a variety of services, including early childhood education, parenting resources, and social and recreational activities for children and families, free to the public on select Saturdays.

The program is designed to create broader inclusion and access for all children, whether they attend Corlears or not. It’s part of Corlears School’s overarching mission to be an equitable, accessible, and inclusive school, breaking the mold on the traditional independent school model.

Learn. Play. Grow. is made possible by a coalition of businesses and organizations that share our commitment to creating opportunity for all children. We are excited to offer this valuable resource to the community and hope that it will make a positive impact on the lives of many families in New York City.

Ages 0-2: Toddler Open Play

Toddlers activities as part of free family activities at Corlears Learn Play Grow

Corlears School introduced the Roots toddler program in 2022. Designed for ages 16–24 months, our toddler program is rooted in age-appropriate milestones and celebrates how toddlers learn and thrive: through the art of play and wonderment. On Learn. Play. Grow. Saturdays, toddler families are invited to join us in the Roots classroom for Open Play facilitated by one of our toddler teachers!

Ages 2-5: Access to Backyard Play Space

Enjoy Corlears School's beautiful backyard play space, featuring the mud kitchen, music wall, imagination playground blocks, and our climbing structure and slide.

Ages 5-10: Open Play in the Gym

Corlears School's multipurpose gym features a climbing wall, basketball hoops and floor scooters. There are also individual trampolines for your kids to enjoy!

Ages 1-5: Love Child Music & Movement

Dancing activity at Corlears Learn Play Grow's free family activities

Your child's imagination will run wild as they explore their world with our music and movement classes. Developmental skills are fostered through play, which means that we'll teach coordination of team-building abilities along the way! It doesn't get much cuter than this for little ones who love getting up close in an active environment.

Ages 3-12: The GIANT Room

This workshop is focused on engaging children and their families with interactive projects that they can take home. From creating gardens to making arcade games, there will be something for everyone!

Ages 5-8: Arts for All

Arts for All is a non-profit organization that provides accessible artistic opportunities to children in need. Professional artists work with youth organizations, building self confidence and creativity while providing the young ones lessons on teamwork through arts and crafts projects or playtime!

An Equitable, Social-Justice Focused School

At Corlears, we believe that equity, access, and belonging are core values that should be fostered in every child. For over 50 years, we have been dedicated to promoting growth through play at the early childhood and elementary levels. Learn. Play. Grow. is just one of the ways we are sharing our mission with local families.

Free family activities include read aloud time at Corlears Learn Play Grow

This program is part of a larger initiative that includes shifting many aspects of the traditional independent school model. One example of this is our Tuition Equity and Access Model (TEAM), which has changed the paradigm from financial aid to equitable tuition level-setting for all Corlears families. We believe that every family deserves access to a quality education, regardless of their financial circumstances. We are committed to creating an inclusive community where every child can thrive.
